Randy Pausch
Pausch says how you need to have specific dreams! I agree because dreams are the same as goals and I think they are very important to have because it keeps you headed in the right direction. And for dreams they will always be there and they can always grow into something bigger and better. I like when Mr. Pausch says that you do not have to be the smartest to lead. Most leaders are never the smartest, to be able to be a good leader you have to know when you are wrong and just be able to work together and get everyone to work together to find the right answer/solution. If the leader is always right it makes it hard for anyone to follow I think. Pausch mentions how in a lot of his dreams he would hit "brick walls" I think that those brick was are there for a reason. To test ones dedication and strength. If you are always handed everything and not having to work for it or fight through something, how is that rewarding?!
Some of Randy Pausch's techniques were to help others and have loyalty along with having child like wonders with a never giving up attitude. I think these are all great ideas. And I would want to practice all of them in my classroom as well.
I loved all of Mr. Pausch's teaching methods. Being good at something instead of everything. If you try to be good at everything will can't really excel at one thing, and quit frankly I just think that it would get to be to much. He also says to work hard, and to always be prepared. He then says to find the good in everybody. Everybody has some good, some may have lot and some you may have to look for. But you should always try to find the good in everybody!

Hi Bailey!
ReplyDeleteYou make some really good points in your blog post about the Randy Pausch's Last Lecture. I agree with the point you made about not always having to be the smartest to lead. One just needs to have the confidence and drive to take the reins and lead. As teachers, we are not always going to know every answer a student asks us, but we are still leading these students. Communication is one of the keys to being an effective leader. With communication you can encourage teamwork and cooperation.
Another good point that is mentioned in the video; as well as, your blog posts is that hitting brick walls makes us work harder many times. If we have had to work for a goal it makes it more meaningful. As teachers it is important for us to encourage our students to push through those brick walls.
You have done a wonderful job with your blog post. One thing that you may want to be careful with is titles especially with professors or others that have PhD degrees. For example, Randy Pausch would be Dr. Pausch. It is just something to be careful with when referring and addressing people in general.
Good luck with the remainder of the semester.

"...to be to much." The correct way to write this is to be too much .
ReplyDeleteYou only skimmed the surface of the many things that Dr. Pausch had to say about teaching and learning. Your post could have been much better with a more thorough commentary. More detail on the specifics of Dr. Pausch's views on teaching would have greatly improved your post.
